Rate-Hike Fears Send Australian Housing Market into Tailspin
Australia's housing market is under pressure as rate-hike fears scare off auction buyers. Recent data shows that auction clearance rates have declined, and fewer auctions are being held across major cities.
The combined capital cities recorded a final auction clearance rate of 49.5% in the week ending August 30, down from 69.3% in the same period last year. A total of 1,462 auctions were held during this time, a decline of 33% compared to the previous year.
Experts attribute the reduced auction activity to higher borrowing costs and interest rate uncertainty. With the Reserve Bank of Australia's cash rate remaining at 4.35%, buyers are becoming more cautious about making major property decisions.
