RBA Cash Rate Hiked to 4.60% in Latest Move Against Inflation
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has increased the official cash rate to 4.60% in its September decision, marking the fourth 25-basis-point hike this year.
This move takes the cash rate to a 15-year high and continues the tightening cycle that began in February 2026 when it first lifted interest rates to combat stubborn inflation.
The decision was unanimous and widely predicted by major banks and financial markets, which had expected a 25-basis-point increase based on stronger-than-expected domestic inflation pressures and an economy running beyond capacity.
