RBA Interest Rate Hike Expected Next Week Amid Widespread Economic Growth
With four major banks forecasting another interest rate hike next week, Australian households are bracing for higher borrowing costs and further pressure on their budgets.
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) is expected to lift the cash rate by 25 basis points from 4.35% to 4.60%, following three increases this year.
Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, NAB, and ANZ have all brought forward their forecasts for a September increase, citing stronger-than-expected economic data, higher oil prices, and the RBA's recent commentary.
David Koch, Economic Director at Compare the Market, has written an open letter to RBA Governor Michele Bullock, questioning why households are being forced to carry the burden of inflation through higher interest rates.
Koch argues that a significant portion of inflation is not generated by household spending but rather by government policies and decisions made in cabinet rooms.
