RBA Rate Hike Falls Flat for Aussie Dollar
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) recently raised its interest rates by 25 basis points, but this move didn't quite have the expected effect on the Australian dollar. The AUD/USD pair actually fell after the rate hike, contrary to what some might have predicted.
According to Fawad Razaqzada, StoneX Media Market Analyst, the central bank's hawkish stance was already factored into market expectations, which explains why the AUD/USD didn't respond as expected. The U.S. dollar, on the other hand, remained firm despite some lackluster economic data.
The RBA's decision to raise rates and leave room for another potential hike in the fourth quarter has put Australian inflation data under a microscope. Meanwhile, the U.S. dollar held steady despite weak job openings and consumer confidence numbers.
