RBA Rate Hike Triggers Wave of Interest Rate Increases Across Australian Lenders
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) raised the cash rate by 25 basis points to 4.60% in September 2026, prompting lenders to announce their plans to increase variable-rate home loan interest rates.
Among the banks and lenders that have announced rate hikes are ANZ, Commonwealth Bank, NAB, Westpac, Australian Mutual Bank, Auswide Bank, Bank Australia, and many others. The effective dates for these rate increases range from 8 October to 15 October.
The RBA's decision aims to control inflation by making borrowing more expensive and saving more attractive. However, this may lead to higher mortgage repayments for homeowners and potentially impact the property market.
