RBA Set to Hike Interest Rates Amidst Ongoing Inflation Concerns
Treasurer Jim Chalmers has acknowledged that Australians are likely in for another interest rate hike this week, following the Reserve Bank of Australia's (RBA) decision.
The RBA is expected to lift the official cash rate by 0.25 percent to 4.6 percent, increasing borrowing costs and repayments for borrowers.
Inflation remains a concern for the RBA, with governor Michele Bullock citing sluggish productivity as a major factor in high inflation rates.
Bullock stated that Australian businesses have become less dynamic and are not innovating at the same rate as they once were, contributing to low productivity growth.
Treasurer Chalmers emphasized that no government has taken the productivity challenge more seriously than this one, highlighting the 15 different elements of the budget aimed at addressing it.
