RBA Set to Hike Interest Rates for Fourth Time This Year
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) is set to raise interest rates again at its upcoming meeting, with a near certainty of a 25 basis point hike expected by financial markets and economists. The RBA's cash rate target will rise from 4.35% to 4.6%, marking the highest level since November 2011.
A standard increase of 0.25 percentage points would raise monthly repayments on a $600,000 loan by approximately $91, which could escalate with subsequent hikes. Prospective buyers are facing reduced borrowing capacities in light of ongoing rate hikes, potentially locking nearly 30,000 households out of home ownership.
Market anticipation indicates a 90% probability of a rate hike, with all four major banks and numerous financial traders aligned with the expectation that a rate increase will occur. Despite this, some experts suggest that while a rate hike may happen tomorrow, it could mark the conclusion of the current tightening cycle.
