RBA vs Plibersek: Low Unemployment Sparks Inflation Debate
RBA Chief Michele Bullock expressed concerns that low unemployment could fuel inflation by putting pressure on wages and prices. However, Australian Cabinet Minister Tanya Plibersek disagrees, stating that low joblessness is 'good for Australian workers'.
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) may be considering an interest rate hike this week amid the ongoing inflation concerns. The unemployment rate in Australia has edged up to 0.1 percent to 4.6 percent in August.
Plibersek emphasized that the Albanese government's strong economic fundamentals, including a triple-A credit rating and two budget surpluses, demonstrate the country's resilience. She also pointed out that Australia is one of only nine countries with this distinction.
