RBA Weighs Another Rate Hike Amid Inflation Concerns
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) governor Michele Bullock has warned that inflation is too high and may force the bank to raise interest rates again. This comes as the RBA's forecast that inflation would return to its target range by the end of 2027 appears uncertain.
Bullock stated that some upside risks to inflation are materializing, citing the Middle East conflict, the AI boom, and extreme weather events as contributing factors to higher energy, food, and tech prices. The benchmark Brent crude price remains above $US104 a barrel, adding to pressure on inflation.
The RBA's deputy governor Andrew Hauser noted that the strong AI and tech boom has pushed up demand in unexpected ways, which may lead to further inflationary pressures.
