RBC Aims to Advance Quantum Landscape in Canada
Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) has unveiled its strategy to 'advance the quantum landscape' in Canada. The bank aims to harness quantum technologies for the benefit of its clients and the broader financial system.
Naim Kazmi, Group Head, Technology & Operations at RBC, explained that as quantum technologies move from research to real-world applications, RBC is taking a leadership position to drive innovation around their development.
RBC has partnered with academic institutions such as the University of Toronto and will collaborate on the development of quantum-based technology. One partnership will see the University of Waterloo's Institute for Quantum Computing establish the RBC Quantum Talent Initiative to support the next generation of talent.
The bank intends to implement a 'comprehensive program' designed to achieve quantum-safe client services in the next several years. Dr. Elizabeth Iwasawa, who is joining RBC as Director of Quantum, will lead a team of researchers and developers in managing development of the bank's quantum strategy.
