RBC Boosts Stake in HSBC Amid Strategic Exit from Australia
Royal Bank of Canada increased its stake in HSBC Holdings plc (NYSE:HSBC) by 17.3% during the first quarter, according to a recent 13F filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The firm now owns 1,304,192 shares of HSBC's stock, valued at $107,582,000. This is up from its previous stake of 1,112,059 shares.
HSBC has been seeing positive sentiment recently due to its strategic exit from Australian retail banking. The company will sell approximately A$36 billion (US$25.3 billion) of Australian home and personal loans to Blackstone, allowing it to leave a noncore consumer-banking market and simplify operations.
Additionally, HSBC plans to redeem in full its £1 billion 5.875% perpetual subordinated contingent convertible securities and delist the issue, which may simplify the capital structure and remove an expensive instrument.
