RBC Issues New Debt, Increases Dividend Amid Shifting Capital Strategy
Royal Bank of Canada (TSX:RY) has recently issued new debt and increased its quarterly dividend, highlighting its ability to balance funding needs, regulatory capital requirements, and shareholder returns.
The bank issued a sizable tranche of fixed to floating subordinated notes with loss absorbing features, alongside an additional tranche of fixed to floating Limited Recourse Capital Notes with a longer maturity horizon. This move is seen as part of the bank's broader capital strategy shift.
Raising its quarterly dividend at the same time as issuing new debt might seem counterintuitive, but it reflects confidence in underlying earnings generation and an institution attempting to expand its capital base while rewarding long-term holders.
