RBNZ Splits Assistant Governor Role Amid Silk's Departure
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) is undergoing a top-level restructuring after assistant governor Karen Silk's departure in mid-December. Silk, who has been with the bank for over four years, will leave behind her role as assistant governor for money and member of the Monetary Policy Committee.
Instead of replacing Silk with one person, the RBNZ is splitting her responsibilities into two new positions: assistant governor monetary policy and assistant governor payments and cash. This change aims to 'strengthen leadership capacity, clarify accountabilities, and support closer coordination' across the bank's core functions.
RBNZ Governor Anna Breman praised Silk for bringing deep financial-sector experience to the role, noting her contributions across monetary policy, financial markets, and cash and payments. Recruitment for both new roles will begin shortly with the help of an executive search firm.
