Rebecca Williams Joins RBNZ Monetary Policy Committee
Rebecca Williams has been appointed to the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's (RBNZ) Monetary Policy Committee, replacing outgoing member Karen Silk. Williams brings extensive experience in monetary policy and forecasting, having managed the bank's forecasting team since 2010.
Silk will depart the RBNZ in mid-December after announcing her retirement on September 16th. Her departure has led to a reshuffling of the committee's internal members, with Governor Anna Breman citing Williams' long tenure and experience as key factors in her appointment.
Rodger Finlay, RBNZ chair, praised Williams for her understanding of how policy needs to be set to keep inflation on target. The change maintains continuity among the committee's internal members, who will now include Breman, chief economist Paul Conway, and Williams alongside external members Carl Hansen, Prasanna Gai, and Hayley Gourley.
