Red Tape Era Ends as NZ Passes Planning Reform Bills
The Resource Management Act has been replaced by new legislation in New Zealand, marking what Federated Farmers calls the end of an era of red tape.
The Planning Bill and Natural Environment Bill have passed their third reading in Parliament, a move welcomed by Mark Hooper, spokesperson for Federated Farmers RMA reform.
Hooper says the new laws will cut red tape, unlock investment, and help grow New Zealand's export-led economy.
Federated Farmers has been pushing for RMA reform, citing the need to simplify a system that has become increasingly complex and expensive over the past 30 years.
The organization hopes that the new legislation will allow farmers and communities to navigate planning rules and processes more easily, reducing the time and money spent on everyday activities like building new sheds or water storage.
