Ringgit Edges Higher vs US$ Amid FOMC Jitters
The Malaysian ringgit began trading on September 10 at a higher value against the US dollar, influenced by market sentiment ahead of the FOMC meeting scheduled for September 15-16, 2026.
The local currency rose to 4.0630/0730 from its previous close of 4.0685/0725 on Friday.
According to Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid, chief economist at Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd, the impending interest rate decision by the Bank of Japan on September 18 is also affecting market sentiment.
The current crude oil prices are expected to keep inflationary pressures elevated, with Brent crude currently trading at $107 per barrel.
