Romania Eyes Euro Adoption in 2032
Romania's authorities are considering adopting the euro as its currency in 2032. Acting Minister of Investments and European Projects Dragos Pislaru stated that this target is possible if certain conditions are met.
The conditions include stabilizing public finances, meeting economic indicators such as reducing the budget deficit and controlling public debt, and conducting fiscal-budget consolidation. Romania aims to organize its public finances by 2030 and agree on a comprehensive development plan for 2028-2034.
Pislaru emphasized that achieving these goals requires coordinating multiple directions, including fiscal-budget consolidation, an economic growth and development plan, and ensuring political stability. After meeting the necessary conditions, Romania will undergo a two-year period in the monitoring mechanism before possible accession to the eurozone.
