Romania's Euro Transition Sparks Controversy as Former Presidential Candidate Warns of Economic Consequences

Călin Georgescu, a former presidential candidate, has spoken out against Romania's potential transition to the euro currency. In an interview, he criticized President Nicușor Dan's claims of a political consensus for Romania's accession to the eurozone.

According to Georgescu, adopting the euro without a national debate would be equivalent to betraying the leu and Romanian interests. He emphasizes that the leu is more than just a currency; it represents Romania's economic sovereignty.

Georgescu points out that several European countries have chosen not to adopt the euro, arguing that having a national currency does not hinder economic prosperity. Instead, he warns that transitioning to the euro would lead to increased prices and reduced incomes for Romanians.
