Rupee Opens Marginally Higher Against Dollar Amid Global Market Volatility
The Indian rupee opened marginally higher against the US dollar on September 21, with traders watching oil prices and foreign portfolio flows for directional cues. The currency opened at 95.82 per dollar, up 5 paise from Friday's close of 95.87.
According to Finrex, the RBI does not seem to be in a mood to allow 96.00 to be breached, which is expected to limit the currency's weakness. The Brent oil prices were lower on Friday as markets focused on US-Iran diplomatic efforts despite fresh attacks by Houthi's keeping tensions elevated.
The dollar index was stable at 100.22 while Asian currencies traded mixed against the US dollar. The South Korean won rose 0.194%, followed by the Taiwan dollar (0.157%), Chinese renminbi (0.13%), Malaysian ringgit (0.059%), Japanese yen (0.045%), Singapore dollar (0.024%) and Thai baht (0.015%).
