Rupee Rises Amid Foreign Inflows and Softer Dollar
The Indian rupee has strengthened for four consecutive sessions due to sustained foreign fund inflows and a softer US dollar ahead of the Federal Reserve's policy decision. The rupee gained against the dollar, despite Brent crude oil prices rising above $87 amid renewed tensions in West Asia.
Indian stocks also joined the upbeat mood, with the Nifty ending above 24,200 and the Sensex rallying by 850 points. The gains were driven by IT, metal, and pharma shares as the August series began on a strong footing.
The Indian government has been bracing for Washington's next move after a US Senate bill targeting Russia's war chest cleared its first hurdle. India is among the countries that could face tariffs of up to 100% under the bipartisan Russia sanctions bill, which aims to increase economic pressure on Moscow over its war in Ukraine.
