Rupee Strengths Against Aussie as RBI Builds Reserves
The Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) efforts to boost foreign exchange reserves have strengthened the Indian rupee against major currencies, including the Australian Dollar (AUD). The RBI has accumulated over $136 billion in foreign exchange reserves through FCNR-B deposit programs, which has allowed it to better defend the rupee against global headwinds such as rising oil prices and higher US Treasury yields.
The AUD/INR currency pair is trading just below its 20-day moving average at ₹68.0772, above the 50-day at ₹67.4323, and well above the 200-day at ₹66.3206, indicating a confirmed bullish medium- to long-term trend.
However, momentum signals are mixed, with some oscillators warning of near-term caution and exhaustion. The Ichimoku Kijun is supporting price action at ₹67.8002, while the Relative Strength Index (RSI), Commodity Channel Index (CCI), and Bull/Bear Power (BBP) all indicate mild to oversold conditions.
