S&P/TSX and U.S. Markets Gain Ground on Tech Strength
Canada's main stock index, the S&P/TSX composite, climbed more than 100 points on Tuesday, driven by gains in the technology sector. The index rose by 130.96 points, reaching 35,649.51. Meanwhile, U.S. markets also saw gains, with the Dow Jones industrial average up 253.38 points at 51,521.28, the S&P 500 index up 44.98 points at 7,818.93, and the Nasdaq composite up 122.48 points at 27,599.79.
The Canadian dollar strengthened slightly, trading at 70.29 cents US, compared to 70.16 cents US on Monday. In commodity markets, the November crude oil contract edged up by one cent US to $89.44, while the December gold contract rose by $30.30 to $4,187.10 an ounce.
