Sánchez Throws Support Behind Hernández de Cos for ECB Top Spot

Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has endorsed Pablo Hernández de Cos to become the next President of the European Central Bank (ECB).

Sánchez expressed his support for Hernández de Cos in an interview with Bloomberg Television on September 23, 2026.

'Of course, he has my support,' Sánchez said. 'He has the leadership, also the capacity and the knowledge.'

According to Sánchez, having Hernández de Cos lead the ECB would be a positive development not only for Spain but also for Europe as a whole.
