Sberbank, Russia's largest bank, is making significant strides in expanding its presence in the Indian market. In an exclusive conversation, Sberbank CEO and Chairman Herman Gref discussed the bank's ambitious plans to connect Indian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with Russian trading platforms and marketplaces.

Gref emphasized that currency risk can be managed through hedging mechanisms, allowing businesses to conduct cross-border settlements in local currencies rather than relying on the US dollar or euro. This approach aims to reduce sanctions-related risks for participants in the trade ecosystem.

Sberbank is launching a dedicated platform to facilitate this process and plans to bring millions of Indian customers and producers into the Russian market within the next one to two years.
