Schlegel: Hot Weather Drives Food Price Inflation in Switzerland
Switzerland's inflation rate doubled in August to its highest in nearly two years, reaching a 19.5% annual increase.
In an interview with radio station SRF, Swiss National Bank Chairman Martin Schlegel attributed the rise in food prices to this year's record temperatures and dry summer.
'The hot summer has had an effect on food prices, you can certainly see that there have been certain price movements,' Schlegel said. 'There are also policy measures taken to counteract that.'
However, he emphasized that the rise in inflation is almost exclusively attributable to petroleum products, not food prices.
