Schnabel Ditches ECB for IMF Senior Role
Isabel Schnabel, a German official and Executive Board member of the European Central Bank (ECB), is set to leave her position early to take on a senior role at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Schnabel has been selected as director of the monetary and capital markets department, according to people familiar with the situation. The transition will happen in January 2027, well before Schnabel's eight-year term ends next December.
The move marks a significant change for the ECB, which has been dealing with inflationary pressures and rising interest rates. Schnabel's departure may raise questions about the bank's leadership and policy direction in the coming months.
