Scotiabank Sees Limited Upside Potential for Euro Against US Dollar
Scotiabank's analysts have made a new assessment of the euro against the US dollar, suggesting that its upside potential is limited. The bank notes that the EUR/USD pair has been trading near its fair value and that further gains may be constrained due to economic fundamentals and monetary policy divergence between the European Central Bank and the Federal Reserve.
The analysis takes into account interest rate differentials, economic growth prospects, and geopolitical factors. Scotiabank believes that the euro's recent strength was partly supported by expectations of ECB rate hikes, but these are already largely priced in by the market. The US economy continues to show resilience, supporting the dollar.
According to technical analysis from Scotiabank, the euro faces resistance around recent highs, with support levels also well-defined. A break above these levels would require a significant shift in the fundamental outlook, such as a more hawkish ECB or a weakening US economy.
The assessment suggests that hedging strategies may be prudent for investors and businesses with exposure to the euro-dollar exchange rate. Companies relying on transatlantic trade could see their profit margins affected by currency fluctuations, and portfolio managers might adjust their currency allocations based on this outlook.
