SEK Seen Benefiting from Swedish Growth Prospects and Anticipated Rate Hikes
Societe Generale's Kit Juckes has expressed optimism about the Swedish Krona (SEK) in a recent analysis, citing Sweden's strong growth prospects and anticipated monetary tightening by the Riksbank. The market currently assigns a 90% probability of a Riksbank rate hike in November, followed by another increase in the first quarter of next year.
The SEK is seen as the currency most likely to benefit from the decisions of the Riksbank, Swiss National Bank (SNB), and Norges Bank. Market pricing indicates only a small probability of any action by the Riksbank in its next decision, but a high likelihood of tightening later on.
Sweden's economy is expected to expand by 2.2% in both 2026 and 2027, exceeding growth projections for other major European economies, including Norway and Switzerland. The interest rate path is a more decisive factor for currencies than growth alone, according to Juckes.
