Seoul Tops List for Highest Smartphone Mobile Communication Rates
A recent survey by Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has ranked Seoul as having the highest smartphone mobile communication rates among major cities worldwide, alongside New York.
The report compared 4G (LTE) and 5G mobile telecommunication rates in six major cities: Seoul, Tokyo, New York, London, Paris, and Dusseldorf. The survey found that for 20GB of data usage on 4G, SK Telecom's consumer payment was the highest at 6,916 yen (about 59,760 won), followed closely by Verizon in New York.
The Korean Telecommunications Business Association (KTOA) responded to the report, stating that Korea has already integrated 4G and 5G pricing plans, which may have contributed to the high rates. They claimed that the billing level is excessive due to artificial comparisons tailored to Japan's carrier pricing plan pattern.
