September Jobs Report Shows Modest Gain and Revised Downward Revisions
The U.S. nonfarm payroll employment added just 29,000 jobs in September, which is significantly lower than the market forecast of 90,000.
This modest gain was accompanied by a slight increase in the unemployment rate to 4.2%, up from 4.1% in August.
The Labor Bureau revised down the previous two months' employment estimates, with July's growth now reported as a loss of 10,000 jobs and August's growth reduced to 133,000.
