September Jobs Report Shows Slowing Job Growth
The latest jobs report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that 29,000 jobs were added in September. This is a slowdown from August's 162,000 new jobs.
Healthcare jobs saw a significant increase with 17,000 new positions, while construction and manufacturing also rose by 11,000 and 9,000 respectively.
However, wage growth was weaker than expected at just one-tenth of a percent. This brings the year-over-year average to only 3% wage increase, which is lower than inflation at 3.4%, highlighting a widening gap for the average American.
The unemployment rate has increased slightly to 4.2%, and with the Federal Reserve set to meet on October 27-28, the jobs report will be closely watched to determine whether another interest rate increase is necessary.
