Seymour Slams Labour for Hollow Promises on Pay Equity Regime
ACT Leader David Seymour is criticizing Labour's promises to restore the pay equity regime without explaining how they plan to fund it.
Treasury estimates reinstating the former regime would cost $10.9 billion over four years, and even the unions think it could be up to $13 billion.
Seymour says Labour has repeatedly made expensive promises without saying what spending cuts or tax increases would pay for them, leaving taxpayers burdened with servicing the interest on Crown debt - $24.8 million a day.
The upcoming PREFU will reveal an updated picture of New Zealand's fiscal challenge, but Seymour warns that locking out Labour won't solve the problem: Kiwis need a smaller, more efficient government that balances the books and focuses every dollar on results.
