Silver Prices Soar on Oil Retreat, Dollar Decline
Silver prices surged on Monday to their highest level in months as oil and the dollar fell. The metal rose by 2.8% to $59.81, with spot silver extending a broader metals rally. Gold moved above $4,100, but silver's rebound was stronger due to its role as an industrial commodity.
The price of crude oil retreated after a pause in attacks between the US and Iran reduced fears of an imminent disruption to regional energy supplies. This improvement in outlook for manufacturing and global demand boosted silver prices, which are also sensitive to changes in economic sentiment. When markets become less defensive, investors can increase exposure to silver due to its precious-metal qualities and industrial uses.
A weaker US dollar provided another tailwind for silver prices, lowering the cost of silver for buyers using other currencies and improving demand across the wider metals market. The dollar index slipped about 0.3%, contributing to the rally in silver.
