Switzerland's push towards a homegrown digital franc has just gained momentum. SIX, one of Europe's major financial market operators, and TWINT, the dominant Swiss mobile payment app, have joined the stablecoin sandbox project in its testing phase.

The sandbox aims to develop a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the Swiss franc, creating a secure digital currency that integrates with existing financial infrastructure. SIX brings technical muscle and regulatory familiarity, while TWINT adds consumer reach and digital payments capability.

The testing phase is focused on stress-testing the peg mechanism, checking the stablecoin's franc value under different conditions, and evaluating its compatibility with payment rails.
