SNB Keeps Interest Rate at 0% Amid Ongoing Inflation Concerns
The Swiss National Bank (SNB) has decided to keep its key interest rate at 0%, a decision that comes as inflation remains under control in Switzerland. This is the second time this year the SNB has maintained the status quo on monetary policy, unlike other major central banks such as the US Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank (ECB), which have recently raised their key interest rates.
The SNB made its quarterly decision despite a slight acceleration in inflation due to soaring oil prices. However, the bank stated that its monetary policy is 'appropriate for keeping inflation within the price stability range and supports economic activity.' The SNB aims to keep inflation between 0% and 2%, a goal it has maintained since June 2025.
The central bank also warned of uncertainty due to trade policy environment and exchange rate developments. In a statement, the SNB noted that 'if necessary, the [SNB] is prepared to intervene in the foreign exchange market to ensure appropriate monetary conditions.'
