SNP Warns Labour's Budget Will Bring Cuts and Tax Rises Amid Inflation Spike
The UK is facing another round of austerity measures with Labour's upcoming budget expected to bring 'cuts and tax rises', according to the SNP.
SNP Westminster leader Dave Doogan claimed that the government was 'softening people up' for a budget that will worsen the cost of living crisis.
The warning comes as inflation reached a five-month high, with Consumer Prices Index (CPI) inflation rising to 3.1% in August due to high petrol and diesel costs.
Bank of England governor Andrew Bailey said this week that volatile global energy costs could push inflation higher still, making it more likely that interest rates will need to rise to bring inflation back down to the 2% target.
