SoftBank Group Sets Sights on Record-Breaking Retail Bond Sale
SoftBank Group Corp., a Japanese technology investor, is preparing to issue approximately 1 trillion yen in corporate bonds for retail investors. This move would set a new record, surpassing the current record of 600 billion yen held by SoftBank Group itself since 2025.
The proceeds from this bond sale are expected to be used to repay existing corporate bonds and invest in artificial intelligence-related projects. SoftBank Group has been increasing its investments in AI-linked ventures, including OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, and acquiring ABB Ltd.'s industrial robotics business.
Details such as the coupon rate for the upcoming bonds are expected to be determined early next month, with a maturity period of seven years. This is SoftBank Group's third issuance of retail bonds this year.
