Sri Lanka's Central Bank Hosts Inaugural Reserve Management Conference
The Central Bank of Sri Lanka hosted its inaugural Reserve Management Conference on September 10 and 11, 2026. The event brought together over 50 leading central bankers, sovereign asset managers, policymakers, economists, and investment professionals from institutions such as the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), World Bank, and Swiss National Bank.
The conference addressed key areas of discussion including strategies for building foreign reserve buffers, implications of geopolitical fragmentation for Asia and the global economy, evolving role of digital and tokenised assets in official reserves, currency power, and the continued prominence of the US dollar in international reserve portfolios.
Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe delivered the keynote address on 'Challenges in Building Foreign Reserves Amidst Geopolitical Uncertainties.' He emphasized that reserve accumulation cannot be considered in isolation from the broader macroeconomic policy framework and highlighted Sri Lanka's experience during the 2022 economic crisis.
