Stable but Still Low: Australian Consumer Confidence Ahead of RBA Decision
Australian consumer confidence has remained stable at 75 points ahead of the Reserve Bank of Australia's decision on interest rates, according to the ANZ-Roy Morgan Consumer Confidence index.
The index nudged up slightly by 0.3 points from last week, but is still 14.3 points lower than a year ago and 3 points above the 2026 weekly average of 72.
More Australians are now concerned about buying major household items, with 44% saying it's a 'bad time' to do so, up from 40% last week.
ANZ economist Sophia Angala attributed the drop in consumer confidence to rising petrol prices and noted that households paying off mortgages saw their confidence decline, while renters and outright homeowners saw an increase.
