Startale Launches Japan’s First Stablecoin-Settled Corporate Bond
Startale Japan has made history by launching the nation’s first digital corporate bond that settles both interest and principal in JPYSC, a yen-denominated stablecoin. The bond, issued by Startale Japan Co., Ltd., is open exclusively to Japanese individual and corporate investors. JPYSC, issued by SBI Shinsei Trust Bank, is Japan’s first trust-type stablecoin and is regulated under the country’s Payment Services Act.
The bond marks a significant step in integrating stablecoins into traditional corporate financing. While stablecoins have typically been used for trading and payments, this offering brings them into conventional financial structures. Sota Watanabe, CEO of Startale Group, described the initiative as a potential “turning point in finance,” aiming to create new fundraising and investment options.
The collaboration between Startale and SBI Group is crucial to this development. SBI Shinsei Trust Bank manages the trust assets backing JPYSC, while SBI VC Trade oversees its distribution. Startale Group provides the blockchain technology supporting the stablecoin framework, bridging blockchain infrastructure with traditional finance.
Japan has been a leader in stablecoin regulation, and this bond issuance tests the practical applications of regulated stablecoins in capital markets. The deal expands JPYSC’s use beyond blockchain transactions, potentially paving the way for broader adoption in corporate finance.
