Sterling Surges as DXY Index Hits Eleven-Week Low
The pound sterling has seen a significant increase in value against the US dollar, reaching a high of 1.3641 and adding 1.98% over the past month. This move is largely attributed to the decline of the US dollar index (DXY), which broke below its eleven-week high near 98.70.
The UK's private sector pay growth slowed to 2.8%, its weakest pace since late 2020, but this data had little impact on sterling's value. The Bank of England's rate pricing is still a major concern, with markets carrying around 55 basis points of tightening from a base rate of 3.75%.
The dollar's decline has led to capital rotation into currencies with higher interest rates, benefiting the pound. However, this rally may be limited by the already-embedded dovish dollar pricing and the need for significant deterioration in US macroeconomic data.
