Subdued UK House Price Growth Continues Amid Economic Uncertainty

UK house prices rose by only 1.6% in August compared to last year, according to Nationwide Building Society's UK house price index.

This growth rate was slightly higher than July's revised annual increase of 1.4%, but still lower than the expected 2.0% rise.

Nationwide Chief Economist Robert Gardner attributed this subdued market activity and house prices to economic uncertainty and elevated geopolitical tensions.

Gardner noted that expectations for future Bank of England interest rates have been volatile, but pointed out that underlying price pressures are not increasing due to higher energy prices.
