Swiss Economy Expects Stronger Growth in 2026 Despite Risks
Switzerland's economic growth is expected to surge in 2026, according to revised forecasts from federal economists. The projected increase of 1.7 percent marks a significant jump from the initial estimate of 0.9 percent.
The upward revision comes as the Swiss economy showed unexpectedly strong growth in the second quarter, with GDP rising substantially. However, experts caution that this growth may not be sustained, pointing to a 'certain countertrend' expected in the second half of the year.
The revised forecast also takes into account the recent depreciation of the franc, which is benefiting the export sector. Additionally, economists predict inflation will remain steady at 0.6 percent for both 2026 and 2027.
Despite the positive outlook, federal economists emphasize that risks to the economy still exist, particularly in the form of high energy prices and ongoing trade policy uncertainty. Persistently high oil prices could put a strain on the global economy and contribute to higher inflation in Switzerland.
