Swiss Economy Surpasses Expectations, but Inflation Looms
The economic outlook for Switzerland is brightening significantly, with companies investing more and the manufacturing sector recovering. According to Raiffeisen Chief Economist Fredy Hasenmaile, the recovery is becoming increasingly broad-based.
GDP grew by 1.5 percent in the second quarter compared to the previous quarter, the strongest growth since the third quarter of 2021. However, nearly half of this growth came from the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, which may have brought forward exports due to uncertainty surrounding tariffs.
Hasenmaile attributes the strong growth to several factors, including companies replenishing their inventories and lower interest rates. He also sees positive signs in the labor market, with the number of hours worked by temporary employees rising.
