Swiss Franc Rises as US Dollar Eases Amid Reduced Rate Hike Odds
The US Dollar has eased, causing the Swiss Franc to gain in value. This shift is largely due to the reduced likelihood of a Federal Reserve rate hike in December, which had been a major driver of the Dollar's strength.
US Treasury yields have retreated from multi-decade highs, with 10- and 30-year yields holding around 5.25% and 5.62%, respectively. However, these levels remain near their highest since 2002, supported by expectations of further Federal Reserve tightening and concerns over the nation's long-term fiscal and debt trajectories.
Analysts at Commerzbank note that Switzerland's second-quarter growth figures have been surprisingly strong, with a quarter-on-quarter expansion of 1.9%. However, they stress that this performance was largely driven by net exports to the Euro area, excluding Germany, rather than a broad-based domestic upswing.
