Swiss Inflation Holds Steady at 1%, Despite Fuel Price Increases
Switzerland's inflation rate remained steady in September at 1%, according to the Federal Statistical Office. This stability was due to higher fuel and heating oil costs offsetting cheaper package holidays and accommodation.
The consumer price index, which is based on December 2025 as a base year of 100, stayed at 101.5 points. Within this figure, prices rose 8.2% from August, with diesel increasing by 4.4% and petrol by 3.3%. However, international package holidays became 3.9% cheaper, while hotels decreased in price by 1.2%.
Car rentals and car sharing saw a significant drop of 14.2% on the month, with parahotel accommodation falling 11.2%. Core inflation, which excludes volatile fresh and seasonal products as well as energy and fuel, remained unchanged from August but increased 0.5% year-over-year.
Domestic prices decreased by 0.2% from August, while imported goods and services rose 0.5% on the month and 2.1% from a year earlier, indicating stronger external price pressures.
