Switzerland Falls to Fourth in Global Retiree Rankings
Switzerland has dropped to fourth place in a global ranking of countries most suitable for retirees. The change is attributed to a decline in the 'material well-being' category, where Switzerland now ranks 15th. This setback is largely due to a deteriorating labor market situation, exacerbated by U.S. tariffs and the strong Swiss franc.
The study's authors point out that financial security in retirement is becoming increasingly pressured worldwide. A rapid aging of the population, record-high government debt, and persistent inflation are contributing factors. Norway currently tops the ranking, followed closely by Ireland and the Netherlands.
Switzerland still excels in some areas: it ranks second in terms of health, boasting the highest life expectancy among all countries surveyed. However, its retirement finances rank only third globally, hindered by low interest rates on savings.
