Switzerland Trade Surplus Widens to 23.7 Billion Francs in Q2
Switzerland's trade surplus has widened in the second quarter of 2026, reaching its highest level since the first quarter of 2025. The country's external balance is supported by stronger goods exports, which have driven a significant increase in the trade surplus. According to the Swiss National Bank, Switzerland recorded a goods trading surplus of nearly 30 billion francs during the quarter, while services showed a deficit of 4.4 billion francs.
The current account surplus has also reached its widest level since the first quarter of 2025, reflecting the recovery of Switzerland's export-oriented economy. The economy was shaken last year by higher tariffs imposed by the U.S., but exports have now increased by 5.5% in the second quarter. This growth supports a brighter domestic outlook and comes after the government upgraded its forecast for economic growth this year.
