Switzerland's Trade Surplus Jumps 72% to CHF 23.7 Billion
Switzerland's trade surplus nearly doubled in the second quarter of 2026 to CHF 23.7 billion, according to the Swiss National Bank (SNB). This significant increase from CHF 13.8 billion recorded in the same period a year earlier was driven by growth in goods trade.
The country posted a goods trading surplus of nearly CHF 30 billion during the quarter, while services accounted for a deficit of CHF 4.4 billion. The current account surplus reached its highest level since the first quarter of 2025, reflecting a recovery in Switzerland's export-focused economy.
Swiss exports rose by 5.5% in the second quarter, prompting the government to raise its forecast for economic growth this year. Transit trade activity also increased during the period, involving companies purchasing goods and services abroad and reselling them directly to another country without the goods passing through Switzerland.
