Switzerland's Trade Surplus Nearly Doubles to $23.7 Billion
Switzerland's trade surplus nearly doubled in the second quarter of 2026 to $23.7 billion, according to the Swiss National Bank. This marked a significant increase from the $13.8 billion recorded during the same period last year.
The expansion was driven primarily by increased goods trade, with Switzerland recording a goods trading surplus of nearly $30 billion during the quarter. However, the country posted a deficit of $4.4 billion for services.
Swiss exports rose 5.5% in the second quarter, leading the government to upgrade its forecast for economic growth this year last week. The current account surplus marked the widest level since the first quarter of 2025, reflecting the recovery of Switzerland's export-focused economy.
